going fishing and finding a friend

Our neighbors have a pond that they are going to fill in with sand because their 1 year old grandsons now live with them. So, lucky us!, we got to have some of their fish for our own use. We took the kiddie pool away from the geese, who had taken it from Sam, and put a dozen fish inside.
I let Sam play outside yesterday since it's been so warm. Then I went in to check on John. When I came back out, this is what I saw. The fish he's holding is dead. He carried it around like a friend all afternoon (I had a hard time keeping my eyes on it to make sure he wasn't squeezing it's guts out or putting it in his mouth!) It gave me the heebie jeebies, but as long as it's safe, I figure this is what being a little boy is all about.

You are a such a great Mom, he's one lucky boy! I know I would have freaked out and made him put it down. But, your logic is much better, and you are right. That is what being a little boy is all about. I think I need to remember that a little more. :)

Oh my gosh! I can't believe he just got right in with the fishies... and picked one up. Not only is that kinda gross, but totally a boy thing, but HOW did he pick it up. Aren't fish like super slimy and slippery??
He is one smart cookie!
